EP7: France (Bonus)

The Bonus Episode - Our top five favorites of Paris!

  1. Julie: Shakespeare & Company- Doesn’t look like much from the outside, but is an absolute delight on the inside! Quirky rooms, multi-levels, filled to the brim, a book lovers paradise!

  2. Tony: Luxembourg Gardens- Filled with gardens, sculptures, fountains, a mini Statue of Liberty, and also including the gold medallions representing the Arago Lines (or “Rose lines” if you watch/read the Davinci Code) named after Francois Agrago (1786-1853). They designate the lines of the Paris meridian, considered by France, (but not the rest of the world) to be the zero point of longitude. The Greenwich meridian was established in 1884, but France abstained from the vote. They used their meridian until 1911 to keep time, but finally ceded to the Greenwich. To honor their meridian history, in 1994 they installed 131 medallions across 5.7 miles and some of them are harder to find than others. If given the opportunity, Tony would find them all! Just outside of the gardens down a nearby street and on the wall of a bank? is the “Original Meter”. Tony also found this fascinating!

  3. Julie: Terra Nera Restaurant from “Emily in Paris”- Not just a pretty facade! Really good food too! We loved the gorgonzola ravioli.

  4. Tony: The haunts of Ernest Hemingway-

  5. Julie: Sacre Couer- Don’t forget to go to up to the bell tower for amazing views of Paris.

  6. Tony: Chez Jeanphi -The most underated sandwich shop in Paris!

  7. Julie: Le Calife Seine Boat Cruise

  8. Tony: Speakeasys/Hidden Bars

    -Lavomatic

    -Le Epicure

    -Little Red Door

    -Mobster Bar

    -Castor Club

  9. Julie: Macarons

-Pierre Hermes- The overall winner for evolved flavors and perfect texture.

-Laduree- The “Pretty” winner with their fantastic marketing, signature color with bags, boxes, swag, etc. Also, their citrus ginger is the best!

-Richart: Best packaging for safe travels home and unique and delicious chocolate selection as well.

  10. Tony: Jozi Cafe with views of Notre Dame Cathedral one way and the Pantheon on the other. Get the avocado toast.

*Random tips: Bring your own conditioner and small bar of soap if those are important to you. Remember that the bottom floor is zero and the next floor up is 1! Google how to use their laundry machines or you will screw it up! Drive on the right, pass on the left, and hazard lights are used frequently as a general alert system and not necessarily an emergency.
