Today we have stories from Nimes, the Tour de France, and Concerts in Ancient Theaters, plus an Interview with our new Belgian Friend, Jonas, and tips about the Riviera town of Eze.
Amphitheater de Nimes: Nimes, (fun fact- they invented denim, de-nimes) was the finishing town for one of the stages of the Tour de France. That was our original reason for coming to Nimes, however, when we realized that there was a Roman Colosseum in this town, and that it was incredibly in-tact and still in use today, we were so excited! They have a summer concert series every year and we were able to see Suzanne Vega and James Blunt. The acoustics were perfect and we recommend going up to the top of the theater, on the far right of the stage and watch the performance from up there. The birds eye view is best! *Make sure that you Google events in the area that you are planning on going to see if there are some activities, concerts, plays, etc. that you may want to catch while you are there!
Rental Cars/Driving in France: Driving in France is very easy, but be careful to obey the speed limits as there are cameras everywhere! They will ticket you with only 4 km over the speed limit. Wayz works really well for navigation, but make sure you have an international phone plan with plenty of data. If you are wi-fi only and keeping your phone on airplane mode, that will not work! Get as small of a car as you can, parking is often tight, complicated, or quite a walk from your lodging.
Interview with Jonas from Antwerp, Belgium: Meeting new friends from around the world is what makes travel so special! We share a story of how we met Jonas and what transpired after he gave us his special hat. He also shares some information regarding his experience following the Tour de France and what it was like to be up on one of the mountain stages.
Eze: Hilltop town with gorgeous views of the sea and French Riviera. Chateau de la Chevre d’or for a cocktail, food, absolutely wonderful! Pro tip: Uber up, walk down or Uber down. Even the trains are very packed.
